Hunter:
The Reckoning for the XBox is a great hack-n-slash game, similiar
to Gauntlet:
Dark Legacy but with better graphics, sound, and story. I had
been anticipating this game's release for a very long time. Was
it worth the wait? Heck Yeah!.
The story starts off with an in-game movie where you witness the
execution of a prisoner about to take place. However, something
goes seriously wrong and what takes place is an imbuing.
The imbuing is when a restless spirit enters the body of a living
creature and takes it over, thus turning it into some sort of monster.
Four characters battle their way out of the prison and lock all
the spirits inside of it. A year later, the spirits are released
and these four characters return to save the town.
The four characters you can choose from are are the Defender, Judge,
Martyr, and Avenger. Each character starts with a basic range weapon,
melee weapon, and spell. You can pick up special weapons along the
way and as you gain levels, you can get another spell as well as
increase your current spell strengths.
The audio and video are EXCELLENT for this game. The visuals are
very detailed. You can hack off the monsters, head, arms, torso,
and legs, each with the requisite blood spray. Furthermore, the
levels are detailed, the water effects are realistic, and the spells
look fantastic. The use of 5.1 Dolby Digital sound is superb and
the surrounds are very active. They really add to the ambience of
the game and also help you pinpoint where monsters are coming from.
It is especially exciting when the background music starts jamming
as you know that something scary is coming up. The in-game movies
are great and really help to move the story along.
Finally, the multiplayer action rules. Your friends can join in
at anytime and can either leave when they die or continue along.
What is good about this game is that there are NOT an unlimited
amount of lives. You have to earn them by defeating monsters, and
rescuing in-game characters. When you run out of lives, the game
ends and you have to start again at the last saved point. What is
really cool is that there aren't individual lives for each character,
but rather a pool of continues that you all must draw from. That
means that a lesser player can use more lives and stay in the game
as the better players don't die as often. Definitely a game worth
buying for single or multiplayer hack-n-slash fun!
Buy
it now fools!
